I’m jumping the gun a bit here, but I am so incredibly ready for it to be 2017! There are a lot of reasons for my anticipation, but the biggest one is definitely A coming home. I know, you’re completely unsurprised by that revelation. Even though I’m excited about 2017, I’m a little less excited for New Years Eve. It’s the first one A and I won’t spend together which is a bummer, but I still wanted to send something fun and festive so he knew I was thinking about him. When he opens his New Years Eve care package, he’ll definitely know that!
Now, I’m going to let you in on a little secret about A: he hates glitter and confetti and just about anything else he deems “messy”. So when I started planning his New Years Eve care package, I knew that I had to add sparkle and fun without glitter and confetti. Otherwise, there’d be no kisses for me, midnight or not!
How to do that? Well, clearly gold scrapbook paper is the answer. I loved the way it worked on my Christmas care package so much that I knew I had to have it for the New Years Eve care package too. Combining it with black card stock really made the box feel like New Years Eve. I splurged a bit and bought really fun gold polka dot overlay paper for the bottom and love it!
I know that I’ve said this before, but this box may be my favorite care package to date. The gold and the black just look perfect together and even my fireworks came out just the way I imagined them! Yup, the fireworks are definitely my favorite part of this New Years Eve care package.
I decided to keep the gold going by wrapping everything in this super fun paper I found at Target for only $3! I had just enough to wrap all of the contents and it looks so good against the black paper. I’m totally getting themed wrapping paper for all future care packages.
Some of the contents fit a “things I’m looking forward to in 2017” theme and I added little notes to those explaining how they fit. The majority of the items in the box were just general care package contents that A loves. Things I sent in this box: magazines, map of our possible post-homecoming trip route, gourmet cashews, cookies, Gatorade, nut mix, Nutella, peanut butter crackers and oatmeal creme pies.
But my favorite item in the box was this New Years Eve kit. Since alcohol is a no-no during deployment, I sent the next best thing: alcohol flavored candy! These champagne jelly beans and strawberry and champagne chocolate will bring a bit of the bubbly into A’s life. The giant Hershey’s kiss is my edible substitute for a kiss at midnight.
The best part of this deployment is getting to work on new (to me) care package themes! This New Years Eve care package is no exception! While I’d prefer A be home during this time of year, I can’t help but love this care package!
